WHO SHALL DELIVER ME FROM THIS BODY OF BONDAGE

Breaking Free from Addiction: Understanding True Life in Christ

Episode 2 | Pastor Manuel Writes

Introduction

In Episode 1, we discovered that humanity was originally created with glory, honor, and dominion. God designed mankind to live in freedom, dignity, and fellowship with Him. However, Adam's disobedience introduced sin into the world, bringing humanity under the influence of what Scripture calls the law of sin and death.

In this second episode, we explore what it truly means when the Bible says that sin brought death—and why Christ offers the only path back to genuine life.

The Consequence of Sin

Scripture plainly declares:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
— Romans 3:23 (KJV)

It further explains:

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
— Romans 6:23 (KJV)

At first glance, this raises an important question:

Did humanity truly die after Adam sinned?

The biblical answer is yes—not merely in a physical sense, but spiritually. Sin separated humanity from the fullness of life God intended.

What Is True Life?

According to Scripture, life is more than physical existence.

True life is the continuous experience of God's goodness, purpose, and sustaining presence. It reflects a relationship with the Creator in which His peace, wisdom, and grace continually renew the believer.

When humanity fell into sin, that perfect harmony was disrupted. The result was a world marked by brokenness, frustration, suffering, and unfulfilled desires.

A World Out of Alignment

The Psalmist writes:

"They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course."
— Psalm 82:5 (KJV)

This verse presents a picture of a creation that has drifted from God's original order.

The effects of sin are seen not only in individuals but throughout human society. Broken relationships, destructive habits, injustice, and the endless pursuit of fulfillment all reflect a world longing for restoration.

Why People Search for Satisfaction

Every human being longs for lasting fulfillment.

Because of humanity's separation from God, people often seek satisfaction through temporary pleasures, possessions, achievements, or unhealthy habits.

Yet these pursuits cannot permanently satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.

The Bible teaches that true life is found only in relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

God's Gift of Eternal Life

Although sin brought death, God did not leave humanity without hope.

His answer is found in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Through Christ's death and resurrection, God offers forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life to everyone who believes.

This gift is not earned through human effort but received by grace through faith.

A Prayer of Salvation

If you desire to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you may pray:

Dear Father,

I come to You in the name of Jesus.

I believe that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead.

Today, I receive Him as my Lord and Savior.

Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I declare that I am a new creation in Christ, free from the power of sin and beginning a new life in You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Final Thoughts

The world's brokenness is not God's original design.

Sin disrupted the harmony of creation, leaving humanity searching for the life only God can provide.

Through Jesus Christ, however, that search can come to an end.

In Him, we receive forgiveness, restoration, and the promise of eternal life—a life that begins now through fellowship with God and continues forever in His presence.

No matter your past, Christ invites you into a new beginning.
